I'm a PC support professional, and former PC and Networking Technical Sales consultant. My daughter needed a laptop PC for university use. She finally discovered after two weeks of school that... no... she wouldn't be able to get through four years of college using only an Android phone.

I wanted to get something that wouldn't cost a fortune, but also wouldn't be in the junky and flimsy Costco bargain-basement SOHO-class either. I also wanted to give her a machine that I knew inside and out since I would be supporting it for four years too. I picked this model since it is one I had specified, sold to small business clients, and supported in the past. It is not the smallest and lightest machine, but I knew that it should stand up to some rough treatment.

I think we lucked out by receiving a laptop that had been refurbed by Ingram Micro, one of the world's largest PC distributors. As the photos show, it was immaculately packaged, came with detailed documentation, and a genuine Microsoft Refurbished Windows 10 product key sticker attached. The power supply is the genuine Dell part as well, right down to the glowing ring on the power jack, and not the cheap knock-off part I was frankly expecting.

One odd thing: The top of the machine (that is, the back of the screen) came covered with a thick metal-textured plastic sticker, which disconcerted me a little bit. I felt that it not only looked odd, but gave it a weird feel in-hand, and made the machine look tacky; it can be seen in the photos. I was afraid that the sticker might be hiding damage. Otherwise, the machine was in perfect, almost fresh-from-the-factory, shape. The only defect we found was a very small divot on the screen edge at the top, which you can see in one of the photos. I ended up carefully peeling the sticker off a few days later to find that it *wasn't* covering any damage or even any minor scratches. Who knows why it was on there? Just something they do to them all I suppose...

It started right up and went through a normal OOBE (out-of-box experience) sequence for Windows 10 Pro, just like a brand new machine. Although the slick instruction sheets said that we would be prompted for the Product Key, that never happened. Once it got to the desktop, I checked the Windows build number, and since it was a year out of date at 1803, I immediately went to Microsoft's Windows 10 download page and ran the upgrade to 1903. Worked like a charm and still no prompt for a Product Key. All the correct device drivers were installed, with only a couple that was out of date, all the devices work, and the system BIOS was up-to-date as well.

I installed the usual set of freeware apps (I mostly use ninte.com for that), and installed a copy of Office 365, and tested the battery. I was sort of expecting the need to buy a replacement battery, but it lasted good five-plus hours.

Finally, I turned it over to my blasé college-bound "customer." I think this was a great buy!
...and based on the lack of complaints, I going to assume my daughter likes it OK too...

Extremely cost-effective product with no bloatware. Hard to tell anything that doesn't look like a new PC. No documentation, but that means less to dispose of. Aftermarket plain brown box and bubble wrap protected it well.

Verified Purchase
The Dell Latitude E7440 is a workhorse. With the SSD, it is lightning fast. And, fortunately, easy to work on. My problem is with the seller. First, the computer arrived with no power cord. No way to contact the seller. I ordered a cord. When I was finally able to fire the computer up I found it had an older 2.4 g wireless card with no Bluetooth. The seller advertised the laptop as having Bluetooth and coming with a cord. I almost sent it back for a refund, but I priced a dual-band wireless card with Bluetooth. $23 and 5 minutes to open the back and swap cards. The point is, beware of what you're getting. Contact the seller and make sure the item has what's being advertised. Great computer. The low score is for the seller.
